Somehow I agreed to help with a Senior Project again this year at Tattnall County High School.  I swear this is my LAST year doing Senior Project!  Ugh!  Anyway, the bright spot is that the student is doing it on photography (right up my alley) so while she was using one camera, I was busy with the other.  I loved how this cream-colored cow stood out against the dark barn.  I kept calling “hey, cow, yoohoo, come’ere cow” etc., so the cows kept looking our way.  They didn’t want to come too close though but the long lens helped out again with the distance.

Sunday I was out and about trying to capture some nature type photos.  These geese regularly hang out around a pond on Hwy. 57 in Glennville and they can usually be counted on to show up.  I stopped the car alongside the road and took the photos from the driver’s seat.  I had the long lens so it was nice to have the car door to prop on.  They were a little wary of me but as long as I sat still and didn’t make much noise, they tried to forget I was there disrupting their morning.

Tonight was the “Wolf Moon”, the largest full moon of the year.  Since it was raining this afternoon (and expected to rain all day tomorrow) I didn’t even think we’d have a chance to see the moon at all.  Actually, I had forgotten about it.  But driving home it was bright in the sky as the occasional cloud passed by.  Since I am normally equipped with the camera, I stopped at the high school and got it out, attached the long lens, the remote shutter release and got out the tripod.  It was freezing out there in the wind but I zipped up my jacket and started clicking away!

This afternoon I decided to head out to the State Park for just a bit to see if I could find a picture.  The sun was about to go down behind the trees and I liked how it lit up the Spanish moss hanging down.  This is also my first attempt at HDR photography, which is a process that merges three photos together.  Maybe this weekend on my regular blog I will show a before and after for those who haven’t heard of it.

Sunday afternoon I met Heather and Caiden Fredritz for a photo shoot.  Caiden (sorry little guy if I have your name spelled wrong), is turning 3 and his mom wanted to get some playful shots of him at this energetic stage in life.  He was full of energy for sure but it made for some happy, fun photos!  He loved the little rocking chair and wanted to carry it right out the door to take home with him.  After some photos at the studio (and some maternity shots for Heather, who is expecting a little boy in April) we headed to the State Park for some excitement on the playground.  After we dried off the slides (at Caiden’s request) he was in full kid mode and I happily followed him around with the camera and played some peek-a-boo with him, to his extreme delight.  It was a fun afternoon and I’m so glad the rain held off!

Caiden’s dad (and Heather’s husband) is in the military and is currently serving overseas.  Hopefully he will get a chance to check out the proofs online of the photo shoot and see his family who miss him very much.  Heather expects him home sometime in April for the baby’s birth so maybe I will have the opportunity to photograph the whole family very soon!

I don’t know what happened to me recently but this blog stuff has suffered drastically for it!  So much for a Photo-A-Day!  Looks like I’m going to have to rename it Photo-A-Week or Photo-Whenever-I-Get-To-It.  Apologies to my two faithful readers (I know you’re out there somewhere)! 

This photo came up just by sheer chance and good fortune.  I am making some black and white photos (okay, should have already made them about four months ago) for a client and the deadline has quickly gone past, again and again.  In an effort to actually complete the job, I was out in the county Saturday trying to locate some decent photo spots.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t find one in Cobbtown and downtrodden as I was, I headed south towards Collins.  Well, just as I made it out of the Cobbtown city limits, this owl was spotted just sitting on the ground beside the highway.  He was really large and I was just so surprised to see him there in the daylight that I thought he must be plastic … or hurt.  I turned around, grabbed the camera, rolled down the window and began snapping the photos.  He was alive alright and was turning his head back and forth to check out my Canon gear.

Once out of the car, he got a little nervous and flew effortlessly up into the trees.  Happily, I followed him and he allowed me to take several more photos of him.  I love owls!  They are so majestic and beautiful.  It was wonderful to be there to capture his portrait!

This is just a piece of colored glass that I have at my house.  I stood it up in front of some candles so that the light would shine through and light up the colors.  No flash was used for this, just the candles.

This is just a random object around the house.  I bounced the flash off of the side wall to avoid a direct glare head on into the object.  I liked the colors and the shadows to the left.

Saturday afternoon was the wedding of Skipper and Brittany Hutcheson in Baxley.  It was a beautiful ceremony and there were lots of great pictures throughout the evening but I really liked this shot for some reason.  When the bride and groom got on stage for their first dance, all of the little girls in the room just automatically migrated to the front so they could watch the dance.  It was as if they were planning their own weddings some day.  Very cute!

Friday night I had the opportunity to photograph a newborn baby girl!  She was just a week old and cute as a button.  Although I wanted to get some sleeping shots of her, she was wide awake just about the whole time.  But she didn’t mind posing for the camera or the bright flashes going off.  Perhaps she’s destined for the spotlight!
